West Carter Middle School is located in Northeastern Kentucky in the city of Olive Hill, Kentucky. We are surrounded by four state parks: To our east, Carter Caves State Park, to our south, Grayson Lake State Park, to our north Greenbo Lake State Park, and to our west, Cave Run Lake. Carter Caves State Park

Our school is starting its 17th year and for the last eight years we have been set up into an organization of three academic teams: 6th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade team. This school year 2006-2007, we will be having 6 periods with each period being approximately 60 minutes in length. We have approximately 530 students, 45 teachers, 6 cooks, 8 aides, 4 janitors and 20 bus drivers. Our school's mascot is the Warrior.

Mission Statement

The mission of the West Carter Middle School is to provide all students a quality, meaningful education utilizing family, school, and community interactions to produce responsible students who possess high expectations as well as the skills and knowledge necessary for higher education that will provide them the skills necessary for an ever changing society.

Site Base Decision Making

Our school is a site base managed school. What this means is that we have a policy making council consisting of: two parents, three teachers and the principal. It is their responsibility to make policy that covers:

textbook selection,

how classrooms are used,

teaching schedules,

budget,

professional development,

discipline, and

hiring procedures.
